Storytelling: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

One way to introduce preschoolers to English is through storytelling.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of my favourite illustrated albums.
It is a timeless and simple story. And it is a wonderful resource to practice English.

We will enjoy listening to the story
We will learn vocabulary: days of the week, colours, fruits

Firstly, we show the book to the children.
Then, we can watch a nice video...

And now... Maths! Counting with fruits.
We can make copies and distribute the templates. Click on image to get the printable.

  1. Hi Nuria,
Thanks so much for your post. I do agree with you about the potential and beauty of this picture book. Preschoolers and younger kids love looking at its pictures. As you mention, you can use it for teaching different contents, from colors to numbers to fruits and veg´s, and even the process of butterfly metamorphosis...In summary, it´s a good contribution altogether. I would add the making of puppets to play out the story and a handmade cardboard puppet theater with nice feet and hand painted butterflies background...
    Regards,
    INMA
